We exist for those who want to go further. Where a habit becomes a pursuit, a pastime becomes a passion, and perfection becomes a welcome obsession. We don't judge that - we're those people too.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
The thinking behind the Nano is over a decade old. Our founder Chris Hilder was on a mission - curious about the formula behind the perfect roasted bean, the missing link in his daily ritual. What started as software experimentation became the Kaffelogic Nano: the finest benchtop coffee roaster in the world.
The journey wasn't solo. Startup Dunedin connected Chris with angel advisors David Cohen and Rachel Elder, who backed the vision with their time and expertise. A PledgeMe campaign followed in 2018, which caught the eye of John Robson - a coffee industry veteran who joined to bring the business side to life. Together, they built something worth talking about.
BUILT IN NEW ZEALAND, ROASTING FOR THE WORLD
The Nano is designed, engineered and manufactured in Dunedin, New Zealand and over 65% of our unit cost comes from NZ supply chain partners.
But how it's made matters as much as where it's made. Sustainability was built into the Nano from day one - not bolted on. It's designed as a legacy appliance, built to keep going roast after roast, with every component replaceable with a global service network to back it up. No plastic packaging, no polystyrene. And by roasting at home from green beans, you cut out a significant amount of the waste that comes with pre-roasted.
Control, consistency and quality aren't just features - they're the foundation everything is built on. Because when you care this much about what's in your cup, the machine behind it has to care just as much.
A COMMUNITY, NOT JUST A CUSTOMER BASE
Our first 100 customers didn't just buy a product - they backed a vision. That original group has grown into a global community of thousands, all chasing their perfect cup, all sharing profiles, tips and that very particular kind of satisfaction that comes from roasting your own. We wouldn't be here without them.
JOIN THE OBSESSION
We're still growing, still learning, and still roasting. Today, we've produced over 8,000 units, with distributors in more than 21 countries, as well as a global community of home roasters all chasing the perfect cup. Not bad for a startup that began with a curious engineer and a very good question.
